The reeds are for my daughter who is in Jr. High band. She is considered 1st chair, by the band teacher and a professional clarinetist who has a son in the band, but they don't use the "chair" designation because someone's feelings may get hurt.br /br /She likes these reeds, on par and a little better than the standard Vandoren reeds. She rated them 4-1/2 but I can only put whole stars.

Rico royal reeds. A royal PAIN. - Cheshire Cat - Montclair, NJ United States
If you are going to buy these reeds, you may be thinking "these must be better than regular rico reeds!" Trust me, they are not. Rico reeds perform 100 times better than their "royal" relations. Rico royal reeds water-log easily and are softer than normal rico reeds. Despite the description on the back of the box, normal rico reeds react quicker and sound better than rico royal reeds. Besides, if rico "royal" reeds are only .00 more than normal rico reed, you can't expect them to be THAT much better.
